I called this a Tree Plant the first time I ever saw it when we were visiting a finca near Popayan. Digging through google images resulted in an identification of the genus and species and note of its Brazilian origin. It requires the cooler climates of the mountains to thrive and Popayan is like Denver in elevation. The watercolor I did in 2013 was given as a Christmas present so this one stays home and remains a source of fascination. I used some red in the shadows and a cerulean blue wash to make the dominant leaf stand out. All comments are welcomed. I have a push-pull these days with watercolor... it is so demanding and yet rewarding, too.
